Everett Bowman, Wickenburg's first and
most famous cowboy, won All-Around Champion Cowboy of the World in
1935 and 1937, is a member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma
City and is honored with a special monument at the Pro Rodeo Hall of
Fame in Colorado Springs. He
held a total of 6 world championships, including steer wrestling, calf
roping and all-around competition. Known as "the George Washington of
Rodeo," he was the father and organizer of the Cowboy Turtles
Association in 1936, which became the Professional Rodeo Cowboys
Association. Much of Wickenburg's rodeo town background was
generated by Everett Bowman's feats. A multi-dimensional person, he
was known throughout the west as the champion mule trainer, became a
pilot with his own private plane, a golfer who had a hole-in-one, a
rancher, family man, businessman, a member of the Arizona Highway
Patrol and Maricopa County Deputy Sheriff, and Constable in
Wickenburg.
